An ApplicationMK 9:19 is not a particularly flattering verse for humanity. The context of MK 9:22-24 suggests it was the father who had the deficiency, not the disciples. MK 9:24 is a wonderfully honest declaration that many of us should emulate (like LK 18:13) though hopefully more out of humility than for true lack (MK 9:22). / MK 9:29 is an example of Jesus describing spiritual warfare without using the words. Some manuscripts say both "prayer and fasting," which implies an extra degree of self denial.

Connect the DotsIn MK 9:15, their "great surprise" may have been due to a residual effect after MT 17:2, or it may have been more mundane. / There'll be another story in AC 19:13-17 where people fail to cast out demons for a very different reason. / The demon in this story was unimaginably destructive to at least that family (not to mention those around them) and this is one form of spiritual warfare (there are others), the epitome verse on the topic being EPH 6:12.
